Our molecular imaging expertise can become a novel tool for product development in a variety of industries
How?
We perform molecular imaging using mass spectrometry imaging (MSI). MSI is a technique used to provide our clients with spatial maps of their molecules of interest within a cross-section of their product. Using high-end instrumentation and precise sample preparation we are able to identify specific molecules of interest and display their spatial distribution and abundance within the section.
We have extensive experience with a specific type of MSI technique called matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) MSI. MALDI-MSI is a robust analytical approach, capable of multiplex imaging of thousands of molecules simultaneously. We are able to image the distribution of metabolites, amino acids, sugars, lipids, peptides, proteins or polymers from a variety of different materials.
Chiral Imaging
Due to recent successful commercial integration of this instrumentation with ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) and our method development expertise, chiral molecular imaging has become a reality. An object or a system is chiral if it cannot be superimposed onto its mirror image. Chiral molecule mixtures occur quite frequently in nature. Around half of all marketed pharmaceuticals are chiral, chiral molecules account for nutritional value, taste and texture in food and they can even determine the stiffness and strength of certain materials. When they individually fulfill such important functions, it becomes important to visualize their distributions separately. At such times AKIN solutions is here to provide results!
